Many formulas are commonly used together as part of an integrative approach. Some formulas work synergistically, while others may not be appropriate for certain patterns or constitutions. If unsure, veterinary or telehealth guidance may help refine formula selection.

In most cases, yes. These formulas are commonly used alongside conventional veterinary medications and other integrative therapies. However, animals with complex medical conditions or taking multiple medications may benefit from additional guidance.

Many animals that are a good match for a formula show some overall improvement within around 2 weeks. Progress is not always linear, and not every symptom necessarily improves at the same rate.
If little or no overall improvement is seen after this time, the formula may not be the best fit for the animal’s individual pattern or presentation.

Occasionally a formula may not suit the individual animal or may not match the dominant pattern present. Signs such as digestive upset, increased heat, itchiness, restlessness or fatigue may indicate that a different approach is needed. If symptoms worsen overall, reduce the dose or discontinue use.

The powdered herbs can be mixed into food, stirred through broth or water, or placed into capsules if needed.

Suggested starting dose (twice daily)

* Up to 7kg: 1/8 tsp
* 7–18kg: 1/4 tsp
* 18–30kg: 1/2 tsp
* 30–50kg: 3/4 tsp
* Over 50kg and horses: 1 tsp
If needed, the dose can usually be safely adjusted depending on the animal’s response and practitioner guidance.

Many animals benefit from longer-term use, particularly in chronic or age-related conditions. Once stability is achieved, it is often possible to reduce the dose, use formulas intermittently or transition to a different formula as the pattern evolves over time.

Many integrative veterinarians find that animals respond more consistently when fed a fresh food diet supporting lower inflammatory load, improved microbiome diversity and overall physiological resilience. However, formulas may still provide benefit in animals eating kibble or processed diets.
