Equine Nourish and Move

Equine Nourish and Move is a harmonising herbal blend designed to support circulation, musculoskeletal comfort, recovery and tissue resilience in both active and ageing horses.

In veterinary practice, it is commonly used in horses showing stiffness, reduced flexibility, post-work soreness, chronic compensation patterns or poor recovery where deficiency and stagnation coexist.

Unlike strongly dispersing formulas used for acute pain or severe inflammatory Heat, this blend is designed to gently support movement while simultaneously nourishing and restoring depleted tissues.

Currently in Australia, certain traditional Chinese herbal blends are only allowed to be dispensed by a registered veterinarian.

As with all Traditional Chinese Herbal blends, the best results are likely to occur when prescribed by an integrative veterinarian who can examine your animal in person. Telehealth consultations however, can be used when access to an appropriate veterinarian is difficult or not possible.

If you would like to access the Integrative Veterinary Products Herbal blends, please book an appointment to access a telehealth (phone or video) appointment with Dr Tanya Meares BVSc.

Before the appointment, you will be asked to submit a form with background information about your animal and their health issues.

The cost of the 15-30 minute telehealth appointment is $80 but you will receive a discount of $40 on your first order of any an herbal blend in the shop (if any are suggested).

These formulas require practitioner dispensing under current regulatory guidelines.

How it Works

Equine Nourish and Move combines harmonising, Blood-nourishing and gentle movement-supporting herbs traditionally used to regulate tension, support circulation and improve recovery where deficiency and stagnation coexist.

The formula is built upon Xiao Chai Hu Tang, which helps regulate constrained movement and restore coordinated physiological flow, while Yi Guan Jian contributes Yin- and Blood-nourishing support to help protect depleted tissues during recovery and work.

Mu Gua (Chaenomeles) adds additional support for flexibility, muscle tension and sinew comfort, particularly in horses showing stiffness, tightness or post-work restriction.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, horses subjected to chronic work, repetitive strain, compensation patterns or long-term tension may gradually develop a combination of deficiency and stagnation. These horses often appear tight, restricted or uncomfortable, yet simultaneously depleted or lacking resilience.

Unlike strongly dispersing formulas used during acute injury or severe inflammatory conditions, this formula is designed to gently support movement while helping restore recovery capacity and tissue nourishment.

Clinically, this formula is commonly used in:

  • post-work stiffness or soreness
  • reduced flexibility or fluidity of movement
  • chronic compensation patterns
  • ageing horses with musculoskeletal tightness
  • recovery following training or competition
  • horses that feel tense, tight or resistant through the body
  • chronic low-grade musculoskeletal discomfort
  • horses requiring ongoing movement and recovery support
  • horses with chronic tension and poor recovery associated with stress sensitivity, girthiness, variable appetite or gastric ulcer tendency
  • horses showing musculoskeletal tightness alongside subtle digestive dysregulation or reduced digestive resilience

Animals suited to this formula often show:

  • chronic stiffness rather than acute inflammatory pain
  • tension layered over fatigue or depletion
  • reduced suppleness or willingness to move freely
  • improvement with gentle movement and warm-up
  • fluctuating musculoskeletal tightness

Think: nourish while gently restoring movement, circulation and recovery.

This formula is generally less appropriate where:

  • severe acute injury or trauma predominates
  • strong inflammatory Heat is present
  • marked Damp-Heat or swelling dominate the presentation
  • aggressive pain control or strong dispersing action is required.
