A classical-inspired formula traditionally used to clear Damp-Heat and Phlegm-Fire from the channels while gently invigorating Blood in inflamed musculoskeletal and superficial condition

Currently in Australia, KAN herbal blends are only allowed to be dispensed by a registered veterinarian.

As with all Traditional Chinese Herbal blends, KAN Herbs are best prescribed by an integrative veterinarian who can examine your animal in person. Telehealth consultations however can be used when access to an appropriate veterinarian is difficult or not possible.

If you are a registered Veterinarian, please get in touch via our contact page.

If you would like to access the KAN range of herbal blends, please book an appointment to access a telehealth (phone or video) appointment with Dr Tanya Meares BVSc.

Before the appointment, you will be asked to submit a form with background information about your animal and their health issues.

The cost of the 30 minute telehealth appointment is $80 but you will receive a discount of $40 on your first order of any Kan product (if any are suggested).

How it Works

Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin is a channel-focused formula designed for inflamed, Heat-dominant obstruction in the superficial tissues. It is selected when Damp-Heat and Phlegm-Fire contribute to swelling, stagnation and impaired healing.

Unlike strongly warming and dispersing Blood-moving formulas, this prescription clears Heat while stepping on the circulation pedal gently. It restores movement without exacerbating inflammatory intensity.

Dong quai tail, Frankincense and Myrrh move Blood obstructed by Damp-Heat. Trichosanthes root and Honeysuckle clear Heat and transform Phlegm. Gleditsia spine and Fragrant angelica disperse clumping accumulation and open the channels. Tangerine peel regulates Qi stagnating from Phlegm.

In veterinary terms, this formula is selected when inflammation and dampness dominate rather than cold stasis or pure deficiency.

It is particularly useful in overweight, damp-prone animals where inflammatory joint disease reflects Heat and Phlegm rather than simple degeneration.

Clinical Cues

Consider this formula in animals presenting with:

  • Inflamed joints in overweight or damp-prone patients
  • Osteoarthritis with warmth and swelling rather than cold stiffness
  • Digit infections or inflamed nail beds
  • Poorly healing wounds on the extremities
  • Osteomyelitis with Heat and swelling
  • Superficial masses or SCC where inflammatory terrain is evident

It may also be used topically for non-healing wounds where Damp-Heat predominates.

Look for:

  • Red or purplish tongue
  • Warm, swollen tissues
  • Variable pulse depending on chronicity
  • Moist or damp body condition

Think: Damp-Heat and Phlegm-Fire obstructing the channels — requiring clearing and controlled movement, not aggressive warming.
