Dispel Dampness and Nourish the Skin (Chu Shi Wei Ling Tang)

POA
Size

A classical formula traditionally used to dry Damp, regulate Qi and support resolution of chronic mucosal and skin inflammation.

Currently in Australia, KAN herbal blends are only allowed to be dispensed by a registered veterinarian.

As with all Traditional Chinese Herbal blends, KAN Herbs are best prescribed by an integrative veterinarian who can examine your animal in person. Telehealth consultations however can be used when access to an appropriate veterinarian is difficult or not possible.

If you are a registered Veterinarian, please get in touch via our contact page.

If you would like to access the KAN range of herbal blends, please book an appointment to access a telehealth (phone or video) appointment with Dr Tanya Meares BVSc.

Before the appointment, you will be asked to submit a form with background information about your animal and their health issues.

The cost of the 30 minute telehealth appointment is $80 but you will receive a discount of $40 on your first order of any Kan product (if any are suggested).

How it Works

Chu Shi Wei Ling Tang builds upon Wei Ling Tang to address Damp accumulation affecting the gastrointestinal tract and skin. It is selected when Damp persists with mild Heat but is not as intense as the patterns addressed by Si Miao San or Long Dan formulas.

White atractylodes, Cang Zhu and Magnolia dry Damp and warm the Spleen while relieving abdominal stagnation. Tangerine peel regulates Qi and assists Damp transformation. Ginger and red jujube support the Stomach and Spleen without contributing to cloying.

Alisma and Poria promote urination and facilitate fluid regulation. Cinnamon gently warms the Middle Burner and supports proper urinary discharge.

In veterinary practice, this formula is particularly useful in chronic mucosal inflammation where Damp impairs healing.

It occupies the middle ground between Cold-Damp weakness and full Damp-Heat flare.

Clinical Cues

Consider this formula in animals presenting with:

  • Chronic inflammatory bowel disease
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Soft stools or intermittent vomiting with Damp features
  • Increased thirst associated with Damp
  • Chronic skin disease in the resolution phase
  • Persistent mild itch following acute flare treatment

This formula is particularly useful:

  • After acute Damp-Heat has been reduced
  • When healing and regulation are the primary goals
  • In animals progressing from Cold-Damp to mild Damp-Heat

Look for:

  • Damp tongue (often swollen)
  • Pulse may be moderate or slightly weak
  • GI and skin signs occurring together

Think: Chronic Damp with mild Heat requiring regulation and healing rather than aggressive clearing.
