Bupleurum and Kudz Clearing Formula (Jia Wei Chai Ge Jie Ji Tang)

POA
Size

Jia Wei Chai Ge Jie Ji Tang is a classical formula traditionally used to release Wind invasion and clear Heat affecting the muscles, joints and nervous system.

In veterinary practice, it is particularly useful in animals showing acute neck or back discomfort, muscle tension, spinal irritation or neurological signs associated with Heat, restlessness or inflammatory irritation affecting the upper body and nervous system.

This formula is commonly selected where animals appear hot, tense, reactive or neurologically irritated rather than cold, weak or chronically deficient.

Currently in Australia, KAN herbal blends are only allowed to be dispensed by a registered veterinarian.

As with all Traditional Chinese Herbal blends, KAN Herbs are best prescribed by an integrative veterinarian who can examine your animal in person. Telehealth consultations however can be used when access to an appropriate veterinarian is difficult or not possible.

If you are a registered Veterinarian, please get in touch via our contact page.

If you would like to access the KAN range of herbal blends, please book an appointment to access a telehealth (phone or video) appointment with Dr Tanya Meares BVSc.

Before the appointment, you will be asked to submit a form with background information about your animal and their health issues.

The cost of the 30 minute telehealth appointment is $80 but you will receive a discount of $40 on your first order of any product product in the shop.

These formulas require practitioner dispensing under current regulatory guidelines.

How it Works

Jia Wei Chai Ge Jie Ji Tang is a cooling, exterior-releasing formula traditionally used when Wind-Cold transforms into Wind-Heat, particularly affecting the muscles, spine and upper nervous system.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this pattern may present with muscle tension, neck or back discomfort, stiffness, heat, restlessness or neurological irritation as inflammatory Heat becomes lodged within the superficial channels and muscles.

Unlike chronic degenerative or deficient spinal conditions, this formula is more appropriate where signs appear relatively acute, reactive or inflammatory in nature.

Clinically, this formula is commonly considered in:

  • acute neck or back pain
  • inflammatory spinal irritation
  • heat-associated neurological irritation
  • muscle tension and stiffness
  • tremors or twitching

  • restless or reactive behaviour associated with Heat
  • inflammatory conditions affecting the upper spinal region
  • dogs appearing “hot,” tense or uncomfortable along the back or neck

Animals suited to this formula may show:

  • warm or reactive tissues
  • stiffness or discomfort along the neck and spine
  • restlessness
  • increased thirst
  • dry nasal passages
  • red eyes
  • twitching or tremors

This formula is generally less appropriate where:

  • Cold patterns predominate
  • the patient is markedly weak or depleted
  • chronic degenerative restriction occurs without Heat
  • strong Yin deficiency signs are present.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of cases tend to suit this formula best?

This formula is generally most appropriate in animals showing acute or reactive neck, back or neurological irritation associated with Heat, muscle tension and restlessness.

Animals suited to this formula often appear uncomfortable, reactive, warm or tense rather than cold, slow or chronically restricted.

Can this formula be used alongside conventional neurological or anti-inflammatory medications?

Yes. In integrative veterinary practice, this formula is commonly used alongside conventional neurological, rehabilitation and anti-inflammatory therapies depending on the individual condition.

Why do some animals with spinal irritation become restless or thirsty?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, inflammatory Heat affecting the muscles, spine or nervous system may create internal agitation and fluid consumption.

These animals may appear restless, thirsty, reactive or unable to settle comfortably alongside neck, back or neurological irritation.
