Galvanex is based on the Chinese Herbal Formula Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang, translated as Lift the Qi.
This formula is used where Qi is deficient in the upper body and excessive (sinking) in the lower body.
Symptoms seen with this can include urinary or faecal incontinence, prolapse, recurrent bladder infections (despite antibiotic therapy), frequent and often pale stools, difficulty gaining weight, poor appetite, anxiety, weakness and fatigue, low grade itch and pododermatitis.
In Western medicine, these symptoms are commonly associated with adrenal fatigue. In blood tests, these dogs may have a sodium (Na): potassium (K) ration of less than 27.
Galvanex contains herbs which work together to improve digestion and to regulate the amount of Qi available around the body. It is known as an adaptogen to improve the bodies response to stress by stimulating the adrenal glands to produce more cortisol. It also can be used for anxiety and boosting the immune response. It is commonly used for geriatric animals but can be used at any age.
It can be used along or in tandem with other formulas to act as a “herbal helper”.
In combination with Voltrex and Lumbrex.
If Qi is deficient in the periphery of the body, the response to formulas such as Voltrex and Lumbrex may be reduced. Adding Galvanex to help them, may enhance their efficacy in treating lameness and stiffness.
In combination with Halscion.
Halscion reduces anxiety by decreasing excessive adrenal gland activity and brain circulation. If Qi is deficient, then Halscion may not improve or even aggravate anxiety in dogs as it reduces the Qi further. Pairing with Galvanex balances this and supports a resolution of anxiety.
In combination with Cessorex.
For animals with allergic skin disease who have not responded to a real food diet and Cessorex, Galvanex may be appropriate. If Qi is deficient, the immune system on the periphery (skin) may be unable to deal with normal bacteria and yeast that live there. Galvanex aims to increase the immune response at the skin, whilst strengthening the gut and cause of the poor circulation/Qi.
*Contraindications: Galvanex is a very safe formula to use, but it has minimal anti-inflammatory actions. It is designed to increase circulation and immune response. If there is acute inflammation present, it may make symptoms worse.
**Please note, Vets are taught, common things occur commonly. In this case, Galvanex is almost always going to be a good idea for an old thin dog with hormonally responsive urinary incontinence, however there are exceptions. A hands-on visitwith your integrative vet will help refine the herbs best for your pet.
