Cool the Blood (Qing Ying Tang)

A classical formula traditionally used to clear Heat from the Ying and Blood levels while protecting Yin.

Currently in Australia, KAN herbal blends are only allowed to be dispensed by a registered veterinarian.

As with all Traditional Chinese Herbal blends, KAN Herbs are best prescribed by an integrative veterinarian who can examine your animal in person. Telehealth consultations however can be used when access to an appropriate veterinarian is difficult or not possible.

If you are a registered Veterinarian, please get in touch via our contact page.

If you would like to access the KAN range of herbal blends, please book an appointment to access a telehealth (phone or video) appointment with Dr Tanya Meares BVSc.

Before the appointment, you will be asked to submit a form with background information about your animal and their health issues.

The cost of the 30 minute telehealth appointment is $80 but you will receive a discount of $40 on your first order of any Kan product (if any are suggested).

How it Works

Cool the Blood (Qing Ying Tang) is a classical formula designed to address patterns of pathogenic Heat penetrating from the Wei and Qi levels into the deeper Ying and Blood levels. It reflects the traditional principle of clearing Heat while simultaneously protecting and nourishing Yin.

Honeysuckle flower, Forsythia fruit and Coptis rhizome clear Heat from the Qi and Wei levels. Lopatherum herb and Gardenia fruit assist in clearing Heat from the Heart and relieving internal agitation.

Chinese salvia and red peony cool and move the Blood, helping to resolve Heat lodged at deeper levels. Chinese rhubarb assists in clearing accumulated Heat and moving stagnation.

Scrophularia root, raw Rehmannia root and Ophiopogon tuber nourish Yin while clearing residual Heat, supporting fluid integrity and preventing further depletion.

Through this layered design, the formula addresses Heat at multiple levels while preserving the body’s Yin resources.

Clinical Cues

Consider this formula in animals presenting with:

  • Persistent or recurrent infections that fail to fully resolve
  • Immune-mediated conditions with strong Heat signs
  • Hemolytic anaemia or immune thrombocytopaenia where Heat and agitation are evident
  • Masticatory myositis with inflammatory intensity
  • Chronic or recurrent skin disease with redness and dryness rather than Damp discharge
  • Latent systemic infection with waxing and waning inflammatory flares

Look for accompanying signs of:

  • Red or crimson tongue
  • Rapid or thin pulse
  • Irritability or agitation
  • Signs of tissue dryness alongside Heat
  • Inflammation that feels deep rather than superficial

Think: Heat penetrating to the Ying and Blood levels — particularly where immune activation is intense and fluids are being consumed.
